Joe
“Meeting me where I was, with the right music and the right friends, every step of the way."
Meet Joe Bruno, a DMB fan since 1994, when a freshman-year shopping trip at Rutgers turned into something way bigger than just a CD. (Thanks, mom and dad, for the “bookstore” credit card!) That “little” purchase — Under the Table and Dreaming — kicked off a lifelong connection to the music that would soundtrack the next 30 years of his life.
For Joe, songs like #41 and Grey Street aren't just favorites, they’re emotional anchors. Sad but hopeful. Gut-wrenching but healing. Music that lifts you up, tears you apart, and then somehow stitches you back together, stronger every time.
One lyric sticks with him:
“I will go in this way... and find my own way out.”
And that’s exactly what he’s done not just with DMB playing in the background, but with the community that came with it.
After a tough season in life, Joe found his way back to DMB show and built an unexpected “DMB family” along the way. What started as a simple $60 concert poster trade turned into beers, friendships, and a tribe that feels like home.
And now? He’s passing it on.
One of Joe’s favorite memories isn't about himself it’s about bringing his son Joey to his first DMB concert at Madison Square Garden, surrounded by that tribe who welcomed him in like family. Watching Joey’s eyes light up when Dave took the stage that’s a memory etched forever.
When Joe listens to DMB, it’s a mix of nostalgia, joy, healing, connection and now, a new legacy with his son.
At the session, Joe and Joey brought the pieces that tell their story: concert shirts, bracelet collections, old-school paper stubs, and, of course, a few prized concert posters the ultimate memory lane lining their home’s walls.
We kept the vibe exactly how Joe described it playful, real, and full of swagger. Because at a DMB show, Joe says, he's “Concert Joe”, free, alive, living in the moment without a care in the world.
And honestly? That’s exactly what we captured: two generations, bonded by the music, the memories, and the magic of the Dave Matthews Band.
